In an earlier post we've answered the question of believing in god and morality, most of you agreed that believing in god is not necessary for morality, as many atheists are very moral human beings.
However regardless of what we believe, do you think that the existence of god is necessary for morality?
I will not speak my opinion yet..

There you go :)
No
Error - I've missed you. I am so glad to see you back here, wrestling with the difficult questions.
Without God, how would we even know what morality is? God is the essence of morality, without him, maybe might is right, or money, or . . . . ?
i believe spirituality, or just believing in 'something' be it Allah or cows or unicorns, is enough to instill morality in a person. You dont need to be religious to be a moral person. You need to be spiritual and have faith in something. Anything.
Not conforming to an organized religion is one thing. I think you just stumbled across the zeitgeist movie perhaps, yes?
And since you mentioned atheists, i'm pretty sure if you asked, they'd tell you they're spiritual.

Thank you! Somehow your post triggered me.
No is not a valid answer, it's too simplistic while I'm posing a problematic question!

Thanks, I missed posting too!
Good argument.

So do you also think believing in Satan will also instill morality?
dont muslims believe in Satan? I think you meant to ask me about Satan worshippers.
Well yes of course. Did you know satanism as a religion is allowed to be practiced freely in some USA prisons, like any other religion?
I forget what the theory is, but apparently we get the wrong message about what it is they believe. Need to do some research.
But yeah, even if satanism is as we perceive it, I highly doubt they would all want to kill their babies or their lovers or whatever. They do have a degree of morality, which might or might not be the same as the 'average' persons.
Morality, like tradition, has been defined and refined over the ages. In ancient Judea it was permissable to own slaves, now everyone is opposed to the idea.
So you see, Morality is merely something that human beings have devised to make their lives easier. The idea of an anthropomorphic diety watching over us is mainly inteded to keep one adherent to that morality.
Which one is more moral?
One who refrains froms stealing because he can't bear to hurt another human or one who doesn't steal to please a God?
If you stuck 3 people on an island, they would immediately devise laws against killing and stealing. Not because of a holy commandment but because they wouldn't be able to develop their habitat if faced by constant fear.
So.....you do not need a God to be moral....and if you are moral because of fear.....doesn't that show your true colors?
