I have been reading through many pro-secular Kuwaiti blogs and I frankly felt a slight militant flavor in their arguments towards religion. Our shameful state of affair probably contributes to your fanaticism about how great secularism might be, how it will be a great boost for human achievement and whatnot. However many of your arguments are incoherent.
No doubt Europe was once in the same situation as we are now, a backward nation. That was because of the catholic religious seizure over all aspects of life. The pope at some period in time prohibited Venusians' merchants from trading with Muslims, very similar to a fatwa if you may; needless to say that the pope also started the crusades.
Many of you believe that secularism, aka separation of church and state, was the reason why Europe achieved advancement. Yet many of you neglect to see that secularism in Easter Europe and Russia led to socialism and eventually failed.
To conclude my thought I can quite comfortably argue that the protestant movement was the first step toward advancement, if not the most important, in enlightened Europe. It broke the monopoly over god. In other words it created a decentralized religious authority contrary to Catholicism.

I'm not familiar with the history and how countries experienced secularism, but why I support it in the case of Kuwait is that the religious people tend to twist religion to suit their opinions. So just seperate ildeen 3an il dawla and the excuses might stop
Very true in many ways but let us examine your argument.
Do you think their excuses are valid?
now I think religion cannot be judged by its followers
No, I don't believe their excuses are valid in most cases. For example, their plea to segregate private schools and universities. Okay, I get that they believe it's "7aram" but allow people who believe otherwise to have an option. Kuwait University is segregated, now they want all the private universities and schools.
They're hardly ever satisfied with having their belief and another belief available. Lazim their way all the way.
ana ekteshaft enik sij sij sij .. na7eeeees
I tend to believe that secularism is necessary in multi-religious states to protect minorities..
The problem is that eventually secularism itself can turn into a religion-like dogma... Turkey is a good example.
Ultimately the fault is not in religion or in secularism, it's in us human beings who tend to move to extremes rather than tolerate other philosophies.
You're absolutely right.
Arabs, just like russians and eastern europeans, are primitve people. Even if you give them secularism they'll rule with an Iron fist.
Secularism is not the answer, there is no answer. Arabs are simply stupid.
